On September 19, the JV Girls and boys basketball teams played against the EAC Giants at their home court. The matches for the JV teams were intense as they did their best to win on the courts inside, while the Varsity soccer teams were playing their second match at EAC out on the soccer pitch.
This was the first opportunity for the JV basketball teams to compete against another school after almost two full months of practices that took place after school from Monday through Friday.
The boys game ended with a score of 35-31. It was a tough game, but PACA kept the lead the entire game. Their point guard, Freshman Joao Paulo Tartoni, credited their success to the focus displayed on the court.
“I think we maintained intensity and kept it through the game,” said Tartoni.
The JV basketball coach, Matheus Ratke, saw this win as a morale booster for the Warriors.
“This game was very important because probably EAC is one the strongest teams in the league,” said Ratke. “So that gave us a lot of confidence.”
The girls game ended with a score of 7-12. It was a tough first game for the girls, but they hope to improve with more practice.
The second set of games for the JV teams was on Friday between the JV soccer teams and Graded. This game resulted in a double loss for both the girls and boys teams.
The boys game finished at 5-0 after a strong first half in which Graded was only one goal ahead. It wasn’t until the second half when boys started getting tired and Graded capitalized on that exhaustion.
The girls game also ended in a disappointing 0-4 score. In spite of the loss, the JV girls coach, Fabio De Oliveira, had positive things to say about their game.
“For the fact of it being the first game, we had a lot of pressure but we believe in the evolution of the team,” said de Oliveira.
