On Tuesday night, August 20, the Varsity Girls Warriors faced the Chapel Trojans in the first soccer game of the season, which gave them their first win for the school year with a score of 1 to 0.

Since it was a home game, the Trojans brought a lot of defensive qualities to the pitch, and the PACA  Warriors played a very good game of offense against them. The advantage this year was that the varsity girls had a few weeks of training before the first game.

They have been  training very hard and putting lots of effort into their practices. The girls played really well for most of the game. PACA had control of the ball for a majority of the game.

The game stayed tied until the 17th minute of the game, when freshman Izabella Silva made a goal from a corner kick, which hit the back of the net.  According to Luisa Almeida, this was the turning point of the game.

PACA was playing well but not excited enough,” said Almeida.  “But when she scored the goal the team started to play harder.”

“I think I played well,” said Silva, about her overall performance.  “But there were some things that I wish I did differently.”

Silva received an injury to her knee that she feels affected the rest of the game’s outcome.

“I wish I didn’t get hurt,” said Silva. “Maybe we could have scored another goal.”

Silva thinks the priorities of the team right now is to work on shooting at the goal and working together as a team.

Almeida feels that her team was at an advantage against the Trojans because their offensive strategy was not very strong.

”I didn’t do much at that game because Chapel wasn’t attacking,” said Almeida.
