An elementary school teacher assistant helps an elementary or preschool teacher supervise and educate students in classes ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Their responsibilities may be to assist with student discipline, the reinforcement of instruction by answering questions and helping teach students during a part of the lesson.

It is important to have a teacher aide in these elementary classrooms because he or she will help to teach the students, and organize the classroom.

There are many roles that an elementary teacher’s aid will have both inside and outside of the classroom.  And sometimes, that role is extended to children who need additional attention.

“If your child has special health or physical needs, a teacher’s aide can help with medicines, feeding, toileting, moving about the school, using specialized equipment, and keeping a record of these things if this is important.”

This was a recommendation of the parents education organization found at this website: THE ROLE OF A TEACHER’S AID

Special education aides have more responsibility than a typical teacher’s aide/assistant. They work alongside special education teachers and/or therapists to teach children with emotional and behavior disorders, intellectual disabilities, problems with communication, or physical disabilities.

“We do everything that the teacher asks us to do, we need to be creative, patient and need to know how to lead with special needs children,” said Julianan Biller, who assists 2nd grade.

And to choose the teacher’s aide you need to look if the person has responsibility and if he is a very good person, with a good heart.

In my opinion, a teacher’s aide is very important, because we have a lot of people that need help in the classroom. When a class may be in chaos, a teacher’s aide can be fundamental to the homeroom teacher for the class. Another thing to understand is that we have children that have special needs, so the teacher’s aide will know how to help with a child like this.
