At PACA, the STUCO elections took place during the normal chapel time for high school students on Tuesday, August 13. Jun Yoshikawa was one of the two nominees for STUCO president and he won the election against senior Laura Hatcher in a close race.

As the new president for STUCO of the 2024/2025 school year, he has given us many aspects in which he wants to help the new STUCO leaders become an effective group of student leaders for the PACA student community.

Jun Yoshikawa has had a lot of experience as a student at PACA.  He has been in PACA for 14 years, which has influenced his purpose to help the HS STUCO this year. The amount of time he has been in PACA has helped him use more of his knowledge to help all of high school.

Yoshikawa has responded to student requests for a school mascot. During his nomination speech, he gave hope for a new school mascot for the sports team, as part of the top three things he would like to bring to PACA this school year.

“The top things I want to do in high school are, first, a mascot for sports. Second, [is] helping freshmen for more knowledge of colleges,” said Yoshikawa. “Third: Using a new payment system for the Pop Shop.”

Vitor Silva, from the freshman class, has some things to say about Jun Yoshikawa becoming the new president of STUCO.

“I think he has very good potential and plans,” said Silva. “I think he will be a great STUCO president.”

The next step for the STUCO president, as well as the rest of the elected members of STUCO, is to organize the committees for social life and spiritual life which will also include the elected members of each high school grade in those positions.

STUCO members and class officers will be working in collaboration with the teachers who have volunteered to supervise their activities and provide support when needed.  Mr. Josh Stockment, as the high school principal, is in charge of STUCO as a whole.  Renato Sousa, the athletic director, will be in charge of the social life committee, Lucas Ham Swisher, will be in charge of the spiritual life committee and Dr. Cristina Meier will be helping supervise meetings and events as needed.
